Kalman Strobel In 1978, Kalman Strobel began his career in jewelry as an independent jewelry salesman. But in a short time, his company, AKS Jewelry Company, began manufacturing gold and hand-made rope chains in New York City, supplying an expanding American national market. AKS Jewelry Company was a major supplier of gold hand-made rope chains to several national jewelry chain stores such as QVC, Home Shopping Network, and many other major jewelry companies. To meet the growing demand for hand-made gold rope chains, Kalman expanded overseas and opened manufacturing plants in Peru, Nicaragua and Chile to produce his gold hand-made rope chains. The Peru plant (opened in 1981) employed 600 workers followed by the Nicaragua plant which employed 1000 workers and lastly the Chile manufacturing facility that employed 400 workers. Altogether, the three plants employed 2,000 workers. Kalman Strobel brought many innovations for the manufacture of gold hand-made rope chains and in 1992, Kalman invented and patented a diamond-cut, hollow rope chain that was produced in all his factories. In 2001, Kalman sold AKS Jewelry Company to an American publicly held company and he has remained in the jewelry and commodity marketing business, buying and selling gold, diamond, and commodities.
